This fake shows up for sale on internet auction sites, and often fools novice collectors!

It is a well-made copy aged to look period by rust pitting the blade and treating the brass chemically to age it.

However, one quick way to identify a fake is the tang and how it is pinned. Original will be round, Fakes are rectangle in shape.

Also, look at the wood and blade shape. Original have a rose-wood smooth finish and a thinner blade.
